Keeping Summertime Makeup, and Hair Looking Great

During the summertime, you may want to spend less time on your makeup, and more time with other activities, but still look great while doing them. Whether you are going to an outdoor event, or to the beach/public pool, you can keep your look fresh. If your skin is clear, or has slight imperfections, you can use an oil free tinted moisturizer. This gives some coverage, and gives a glow to the skin. Oil free products stay in place much better, and allow the skin to breathe. If you need more coverage, try using some concealer, or oil free foundation. (Be sure to use an oil free moisturizer so your makeup will go on smoothly, and not look blotchy). You can also use Suzanne Somers Spray Foundation. If you can't find it on SuzanneSomers.Com, you can try an Internet search. It goes on cool, gives great coverage, and feels light. It also has great staying power. Local drugstores sell a puff with a satin ribbon that you can use after application to absorb excess moisture from makeup. Be sure to set the makeup with a light dusting of loose powder. You can then use either a sheer shadow on your lids, or a touch of bronzer. If you choose to wear liner, look for one that is waterproof, and set with a shadow. You can wear mascara (waterproof, optional) on the top lashes, and be sure to comb/brush them so they will dry. Apply bronzer, and a touch of blush, then follow up with gloss, or sheer lipstick. Be sure to check your makeup near a window during daytime, so you can avoid a blotchy look. Be sure to always blend.
Maintaining your look is simple. You can carry a compact, such as Aqua Smoothe by Covergirl (sponge is included.) Use the sponge to wipe any possible smudges. You can also use blotting paper (optional) to absorb moisture.

Current trend colors for Summer 2012 are:

Eyes:

Range from soft neutrals to bright/bold colors. Metallics such as copper, gold, silver, lilac/plum, and smokey. My alternative to metallic is soft shimmer shadow.

Lips: Range from neutrals, to bright/bold reds, pinks, corals. You can use a lip stain, tinted lip balm, sheer gloss, or just blot a very bold lipstick.

Cheeks: Bronzer/Blush Bronzer is also being used to add contour to cheek. I usually mix bronzer with blush.

Eyeliner: Smokey liner and extended liner for the cat look. Be sure to look for waterproof liner. You can use a liquid, or a cream/gel liner.

Nails: Ranging from neutrals to neon

Now that we know how to keep our current trends looking great, we need to be sure that our hair will look it's best, and lets face it, during summer, that can be difficult to do, unless we know what products, and styles will work best. My favorite line is by Nick Chavez because his products work! He keeps the celebrities, and royalty looking their best. My hair looks, and feels healthier, and the styles stay without a gross buildup. Nick has products for every hair type. He also offers great hair advice, and has videos on how to use his products.

Hot Color Trends for Spring/Summer 2012

There are many hot color trends for spring/summer 2012. Most of the makeup looks are natural, and soft.

Face: Sheer foundation, tinted moisturizers. If you need more coverage, but don't want to feel the weight of you makeup, you can try You Name Brand matte foundation. (I wear it year round). They also make tinted moisturizer, and a full line of cosmetics.

Eyes: shimmered shadows, soft pastels, bronzed, or metallic shadows, and even the smokey eye. This year, for a smokey eye, some are using navy shadow.

Eyeliner: Pastel shades of green, lilac, silver, pale blue. As an alternative, I like using Prestige shadow duo, Two to Tango. (For shadow, and liner). As I mentioned in a previous post, it's a combination of shimmer plum, and shimmer silver. I use just a touch of the silver mixed with my Maybelline Chick Naturals (Vanilla) on the inner corner of the eye (the part of the eye near the nose, and extend slightly, and then blend it with a sponge. I use black liner, and smudge it, then set it with shadows. (plum, black, navy).

Mascara is used very sparingly.

Brows: soft, defined.

Cheeks: Bronzy, rosy, flushed. I still mix Prestige Bronzer (Sunkissed) with Your Name Brand's mineral blush (Garden). It gives the face a healthy look.

Lips: Glosses in neutral shades such as pink, or peach, pinkish gold.

Nails: Nudes, creams, beige, sheer gold, white, pale pink, gray, classic reds, chic corals, pastels, metallic designs.

Holiday Makeup Trends for 2011

Shimmer Eyes
Lots of shimmer shadows are being used during the holidays, and what better time to shine? You can either stick to neutral shades like gold, and silver, or try bolder colors like plum. (There are also bold gold, and silver shadows if you prefer them). You can mix shimmer plum shadow with the gold, and silver. Currently, I found a shadow call Two to Tango by Prestige Cosmetics. It is silver on one side, and plum on the other. I mix a light purple (lilac, or lavender)  with the silver for the center, and the silver with vanilla(white) shadow from Maybelline under the brow bone and then use the plum on the outside of the eye. be sure to blend. This specific shade leaves sparkle on your face, but you can wipe it with a sponge. Whatever shades of shadows you choose, if you wear eyeliner, try black, deep plum, or navy to allow your eyes to stand out more. Be sure to follow up with a great mascara of your choice in either black or navy, and try curling your lashes. If you are comfortable, you can try individual lashes, or strips.
Cheeks:
You can mix bronzer with blush, (you can also apply cream blush, and highlight with a powder blush).
Lips:
They range from bold reds, and rose colors to two toned. Both high shine, and matte are popular. (It's a matter of preference.)
Nails:
Nude nails with a coat of clear glitter, and white polish. While still wet, you can add silver confetti, and seal in with some top coat. You can also use a simple shimmer polish instead.

Fall Color Trends 2011

For Fall 2011 we are seeing makeup color trends ranging from subdued 70's, with soft gold, neutrals, orange tones to 90's club looks, where we are still seeing bold colors on eyes, and lips.

Eyes:
There are mixtures of carmel, and lavender shadows. (As an alternative, try mixing light (sheer) purple with sheer gold.) Bold smokey eyes, including, black, gray, and navy shadows. Metallic shadows are still popular, such as gold, silver, emerald, or soft green, and teal, shadows. (As an alternative, try a softer shimmer color.)  (For an even softer look, or if you aren't comfortable with the boldness, but want to wear the latest trends, try using sheerer versions, or use a lighter amount, and mix with a touch of white, and blend to soften the look.)

Cheeks:
Rosy pink. You can try a cream blush, or use a lighter application, and tone down with a touch of powder.

Lips:
Bold red lips are back in, including matte style. (For an alternative, use either a rose colored lipstick, a gloss, or just blot some of the color.)

Nails:
Colorful dusky, deeper jewel-tones, earthy tones, shimmer greens, blues, deep reds, wines, rust, deep mauve/purple, nudes, and grays.  There is also more artwork such as lace on the nails.

Great Hair Care

After you have achieved great skin, and flawless makeup, you'll want to achieve a hairstyle that stays, and works for you. What better way to achieve great styles, or maintain your look from the salon than with great haircare?
Some great haircare lines I like are by Nick Chavez, John Frieda, Alagio, and BedHead. They have excellent products for ever hair type.
My favorite products from Nick Chavez are his volumizing collection, espcially the Plump N Thick line! These products range from shampoos, conditioners, thickening spray gel, a leave in thickening mist for your roots, and of course the hairspray that holds your style.  Each of the products from the Plump N Thick line contain collagen, which helps plump up the hair. You can combine the gel, thickening mist, and hairspray in your hands, and work it throughtout your roots to give you fullness. Nick has products to help you create various looks from  Body, Curls/Waves, Nourishing/Hydrating, Shine, Straightening,Thickening,Volume.

From John Frieda, I love Sheer Blonde hairspray. You don't have to have blonde hair to use it. You can manage your style without your hair turning sticky, or white.
I also love the Frizz-Ease Clearly Defined gel. It shapes, and holds the style. You don't need a lot of product, and it doesn't feel gooey, or flake up in your hair.
The volumizing Brunette shampoo smells great, and works well. You can view/purchase John's products here, or in most pharmacy/retail stores.

From the Bedhead line, I love Catwalk Strong Mousse (Extra strong mousse works just as well). I also love Small Talk, which can be used three differen't ways, and Queen For a Day hairspray! They smell great! These products work well, and leave your hair soft, and shiney! I love this line when I set my hair, and alway finish with Nick Chavez Plump N Thick. The products are available in some salons, some pharmacies, some grocery stores, and at beauty supply stores. You can view them here, and also find out where they ate sold near you.

From the Alagio Professional Haircare line, I've tried Crazy Curl Balm. It has a shimmer to it, and helps eliminate frizz. I use it after I wash my hair, and while styling. They have a balm for straight hair as well. (Silk Obsession straightening balm)
The Crazy Curl shampoo was voted "Most Wanted Hair Care" by In Style Magazine.
This line can be purchased at some grocery stores, and you can check which retailers are available near you, as well view the ingredients for the entire line.
