Hot Makeup Looks Going Into 2011

The hot makeup look of the moment for 2010, and part of 2011 is smokey eyes, and red lips. These looks have been around a while, but they're no longer being worn in typical fashion.
As a professional makeup artist, I never limit my clients to just one way of wearing a current look. It's a matter of preference. Start out with a little foundation over the lids, wipe off excess, and set with powder. This will extend the wear of your makeup. You can use plums, pinks, or bronze colors, which happen to be current, or opt for the traditional black (shimmer black looks great), as well as navy, or smokey gray shadows. For those of you that aren't comfortable with bold makeup, you can do a semi-smokey look. You can use medium colored shadows, and blend more to soften the look. You can wear black, plum, or navy liner, and set with shadow. Follow up by curling lashes, (optional) and apply black or navy mascara to your lashes.

For the lips, it's also a matter of preference. Apply either a little bit of concealer, or foundation to your lips first. This helps the lipstick stay in place a little longer, and prevents feathering around the mouth. For those that like very red lips, you can match up a pencil, lipstick, and gloss. For those that like a softer look, try a rose colored pencil, or even a brown colored pencil (cappucino is a color my clients, and I like to mix with many lip shades). Try mixing red, and brown lipsticks together, or go with rose colored lipstick. You can also try a gloss. Nowadays, they have glosses that are longwearing, and they're not sticky. I've switched to glosses for quite some time now. They stay on long, and feel hydrating.
